I am a qualified electrical engineer with a broad technical background in the railway and telecommunications industries, but I have specific experience in the production of complex technical documentation. I am self motivated, efficient, flexible and committed to achieving extremely high standards of work.

  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (BEng Hons class 2:1)
  • 'A' level English Language (grade A) recently acquired
  • Other 'A' levels: Mathematics (A), Physics (A), Chemistry (A)
  • RSA I and RSA II Typewriting Skills
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • City & Guilds 7307 Teacher Training stages 1 & 2

Experience/Knowledge

  • 10 years' experience in engineering industry (ISO9001 quality management environment)
  • 3 years' experience as a freelance technical author/copy-editor/proofreader
  • Clear written presentation skills, sound knowledge of English grammar and a keen eye for detail
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Word 97 & 2000, Adobe FrameMaker 5.5, Jasc Paint Shop Pro V7, RoboHelp HTML X3
  • Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 2000, NT, some experience in MSDOS and UNIX
  • Programming experience in C, Fortran, Pascal, BASIC, Assembly and Prolog
  • Fully equipped with 3 PCs, broadband internet connection and professional onsite IT administrator

  • Technical/Engineering
    As a qualified electrical engineer, I worked in the engineering industry for ten years before branching out as a freelance technical author. I have a solid appreciation of technical subjects such as electromagnetism, electronic circuits, computers, etc.
  • Software
    I have developed software in a number of different computer languages and am experienced in software documentation and online help file production.
  • Language
    I have A level English Language and O level English, Latin and French.
  • Medical
    I used to be a First Aid trainer and therefore have a good working knowledge of anatomy, causes of illness and application of emergency care.
  • Teaching
    I have a City & Guilds 7307 teacher training qualification and have experience of teaching first aid and electronics (not at the same time!). I understand the intricacies of course preparation and lesson planning and the immense documentation requirements of these.
